Beginnings of the project

2021 – 2024

PRAHO! project was founded in October 2021. Back then, we began placing several dozens of poems in public spaces of the city in the form of stickers, posters, billboards or art installations. Each text carries a unique idea and a QR code that links to a website with several personal or urban questions, such as “What makes you get up in the morning?“, “When was the last time you did something for the first time and what was it?” or “Do you consider this city anonymous?“. You can also upload photos or videos to the site.

Since the launch of the project, we have received over 25000 confessions highlighting how unique people really are. Many are contradictory, others are repetitive – for example,  mentions of feeling lonely or being misunderstood are very common. Perhaps because of the fact that the project is anonymous, people share their fears and secrets, send us their poetry, drawings and even short films. It is an incredible collection of opinions, feelings, artistic expressions and thought processes.

Fundamentals ideas

There are three main ideas behind the creation of this project – the first is our desire to help random people step away from the dullness of everyday life; the second is to fight against the exclusivity of exhibiting art in galleries by placing it in public spaces; and the third (the most important one at the moment) is the desire to connect society together and point to the fact, that we could be much closer to each other in this estranged world, than it seems.

Combinig different forms together

Thanks to the courage of people sharing sometimes even the unshareable, this project continues to grow. It is currently run by a team of 13 people. We are constantly working on the project. In December ’22 we completed the publishing of a four-volume PRAHO! publication. In April ’23, thanks to the financial support of our partners TSK, GHMP, AVU and Umění pro město, we opened our first ever big permanent project in public space, which is an interactive underpass under the tram stop Vychovatelna called Změny.

On August 13th ’23 we inaugurated our second permanent installation Queer All Year on Fügner square in Prague 2.

Our largest project to date, We Should Have a Talk in Prague 5, was launched on April 13th ‘24.

The future of the project

Interactive game

We have long been striving to explore various art forms. For this reason, throughout year ’24 we have been preparing the interactive game And what now?. Countless organizations and institutions from all over the Czech Republic are participating in its creation along with us. The game was released in December 2024. Will you play with us?

In addition to revitalizing further places throughout Prague, including cooperation with the Prague Congress Center, we are planning to step outside the city and possibly even the Czech Republic. In addition to renovating public space, we are also starting to focus on creating interactive workshops and broader community involvement in public space.
