The PRAHO! project currently operates on several platforms, from implementing poetry and statements in the public space of the city to publishing a four-part publication and carrying out smaller or larger temporary installations and open exhibitions throughout the city. In the spring of ’23, the project opened its very first permanent installation, which is the underpass under the tram stop Vychovatelna. The theme of the installation focuses on the climate crisis and the feelings it brings.
Connecting art with social impact is one of the fundamental pillars of the entire project. Intervention in the public space to stimulate discussion and shift perspectives also led to the creation of the second permanent installation, this time covering the entire Fügner Square on Prague 2. The theme of the revitalization of this space is the LGBTQ+ community.
“Inclusion is one of the fundamental pillars of the entire project. We have long strived to use public space to make art accessible and create a space for diverse opinions. We address countless social issues, including freedom and acceptance. These values were crucial in the creation of our latest installation, Queer All Year on Fügner square, which celebrates its 130th anniversary this year,” explain the project’s authors.
An inclusive approach is reflected in the visual design of the entire square. “The visual design, created by the award-winning illustrator Petr Polák, is conceived in a way that emphasizes a shift in perception and challenges the prejudices that unfortunately still prevail in our society,” the authors add. They also explain that they decided to design the entire proposal in black and white and shades of gray, as a response to the typical color representation used by the queer community worldwide.
